Core Arena, downtown Las Vegas’ first permanent outdoor equestrian center, opened today just in time for this year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Plaza’s Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Jossel, rodeo pro Matt Shiozawa, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and ex-Mayor Oscar Goodman led a ribbon-cutting to introduce the event space to the city.
Downtown Las Vegas is returning to its Western roots!
Building on the success its outdoor equestrian facility had last year, the new and expanded Core Arena and Equestrian Center is bringing the cowboy legacy back to where it all started – Downtown Las Vegas.
Core Arena is the first and only permanent outdoor equestrian center in Downtown Las Vegas. The new western arena, located on the South end of the Plaza Parking Lot, will be used for events throughout the year and will feature two outdoor arenas for roping practice and exercise during the NFR rodeo.
Vegas started as a western town, and has a long cowboy history, so it’s good to see Vegas embrace its western legacy.
Core Arena has 200 stalls available during the nationals, 80 of which will be available for year-round use. Core Arena has the largest stalls in the city along with 24-hour onsite security and veterinarian services, making it easy for NFR rodeo participants and enthusiasts to “kiss their horses goodnight,” knowing their animals will be safe.
After NFR, a number of equestrian and rodeo events are scheduled to take place throughout 2019. Other non-rodeo events are also being planned for the space, including demolition derbies, paint ball, BMX events, and the Stirrin’ Dirt Racing Demolition Derby which comes to town March 29, 2019 – March 30, 2019.
