Halloween Takes Over the Sand Dollar Lounge with Haunted Cocktails and Live Music Nightly

The Sand Dollar Lounge on Spring Mountain is getting its annual Halloween makeover, and this year there’s a new name and a major cocktail company involved.

Formerly known as Nightmare on Spring Mountain, the month-long Halloween takeover is now called The Haunting on Spring Mountain, running October 1–31 at the original Sand Dollar Lounge just west of the Strip.

This year’s event is part of a partnership with Cocktail Kingdom, the company behind the popular Miracle and Sippin’ Santa holiday cocktail pop-ups. The Haunting is being introduced at 50 bars worldwide, with Sand Dollar among the first locations participating.

For anyone who’s been to Sand Dollar during October in previous years, you know they don’t just throw a few plastic skeletons behind the bar and call it Halloween. The place gets completely transformed, from the ceiling to the walls, with Halloween decorations taking over practically every inch of the building.

Halloween Cocktails, Live Music and No Cover Charge

One of the things that makes the original Sand Dollar such a great local spot is that it’s still a real live music bar. While plenty of places around Las Vegas have started charging ridiculous covers and turning every night out into some sort of overpriced “experience,” Sand Dollar has managed to keep things pretty simple.

Good drinks, live music seven nights a week, and no cover charge.

The Halloween takeover adds a full lineup of themed cocktails and over-the-top decorations to what the bar already does. And unlike some of the seasonal pop-ups around town where you’re basically paying for the decorations, Sand Dollar still has its regular live music schedule.

Bands hit the stage nightly at 10 p.m., and depending on who’s playing, you’ll hear everything from blues and rock to some pretty damn good local musicians who don’t get nearly enough attention.

If you’re planning on going on a Friday or Saturday, I’d recommend getting there before the music starts. Sand Dollar isn’t a huge bar, and once the band gets going, especially during one of these holiday takeovers, finding a decent spot can be a challenge. Another bonus is the location. You’re right on Spring Mountain, minutes from some of the best late-night food in Chinatown. It’s one of the better areas in Vegas to spend an entire night without ever setting foot inside a casino.

Halloween Night at Sand Dollar

This year’s Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, which also happens to be the final night of The Haunting.

If previous Halloween events are any indication, expect plenty of costumes, a packed bar and a pretty lively night. Personally, if you want to check out all the decorations and actually enjoy a cocktail without fighting through a crowd, I’d go on a weeknight earlier in the month.

But if you’re looking for somewhere to spend Halloween night that isn’t a Strip nightclub charging a couple hundred bucks just to get through the door, Sand Dollar is worth putting on your list.
