One of the most highly acclaimed cinematographers in film history, Sir Roger Deakins has earned an extraordinary reputation for his diverse and expansive body of work spanning more than five decades.

Since the earliest days of his career, Deakins has also cultivated a passion for still photography, producing compelling portraits and landscapes from visually striking locales throughout the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, New Mexico, and the seaside of his native England.

Michael Frey’s FAS44 art gallery, in partnership with The Hulett Collection, is proud to present an exceptional exhibition featuring Deakins’ photography opening on Thursday, May 11 at FAS44, 4044 Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas. The exhibition will be on display through Friday, June 23. 

“Team Deakins” — Deakins and his wife and collaborator, James Ellis Deakins — will be on hand to meet with collectors and guests at the special opening reception set for 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 11. 

In the lead-up to the opening reception, Team Deakins will also appear at a book signing for Deakins’ first monograph, BYWAYS, published by Damiani, at The Beverly Theater, 515 S. 6th Street in downtown Las Vegas, on Tuesday, May 9. The book signing is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a special screening of FARGO. Tickets are on sale through The Beverly Theater. 

“It is such an incredible honor to host this exhibition featuring a collection of Sir Roger Deakins’ still photography,” said Frey, an avid collector of fine art photography for more than 30 years who is making it his mission to bring world-class art to Las Vegas. “All film enthusiasts are familiar with Roger’s collaborations with legendary directors like the Coen brothers, Sam Mendes and Denis Villeneuve, and I promise they’ll find his photographs just as riveting and inspiring.”

The only cinematographer to earn the honor of knighthood by the British Crown in recognition of his contributions to film, Deakins has been nominated for 16 Academy Awards, winning twice for Best Cinematography for “Blade Runner 2049” and “1917.” 

Deakins has also been nominated for 11 BAFTA Film Awards, winning five times for Best Cinematography for “The Man Who Wasn’t There,” “No Country for Old Men,” “True Grit,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “1917.”

“Roger’s films have been seen and enjoyed by a wide audience of countless millions throughout the world,” Frey said. “I’m proud that this exhibition will give people an opportunity to view a different, more personal side of one of the greatest artists of our time.”
