Clark County is monitoring a leak in a gas piping station in Long Beach, California that has shut down a main gasoline pipeline into Clark County and the Las Vegas valley. Clark County officials said in a statement Friday that emergency managers are monitoring the leak in the CALNEV Kinder Morgan line, which feeds unleaded and diesel fuel into storage facilities in Las Vegas.
The 566-mile pipeline system moves gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel to Barstow and Las Vegas. According to Kinder Morgan’s website, it also supplies Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV, McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NV, and Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert in southeastern California. Kinder Morgan is the largest independent transporter of petroleum products in North America, transporting approximately 2.4 million barrels per day. In addition, they operate approximately 3,000 miles of refined products pipeline that serves Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Texas.

At approximately 4 p.m. Pacific Time yesterday, Kinder Morgan began investigating a release inside its Watson Station in Watson, California. Watson Station and its associated SFPP West and CALNEV pipelines have been isolated and shut down while we work to resolve this issue. There are no injuries or fire reported as a result of this incident.
The appropriate regulatory agencies have been notified, and an investigation into the cause and quantity of the release will be conducted. We are working closely with our customers on potential impacts.
The news and Clark County made sure to leak this as quietly as possible yesterday.
Immediately gassed up our vehicles around 230pm and told a few unjabbed neighbors who did the same. By 5pm, there were long lines, stations that were out and the news still pretending nothing was happening.
